FocusCura launches new generation of e-health solutions to help elderly and chronically ill stay independent

6 juni 2016

The Dutch health care innovation company FocusCura is launching a new generation of e-health solutions, including apps for iPhone and iPad, which will help the elderly and the chronically ill remain independent for longer. The launch includes different iOS apps to support home care nurses, a tele monitoring solution for iPhone and a specially designed iPad App that allows seniors to connect with their care givers remotely through video.

Apple Mobility Partner

As an Apple mobility partner, FocusCura is now able to get its innovative health care apps in the hands of more caregivers and patients while leveraging the latest features of iOS combined with design and user experience guidance from the team at Apple. The new e-health solutions will be available from Apple Resellers throughout Europe, starting in the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, and Denmark.

Remaining Independent for as Long as Possible

"E-health and home automation are becoming increasingly important for maintaining affordable health care and helping people live independently for as long as possible,” says Dr. Daan Dohmen, the founder and CEO of FocusCura. “With these new solutions, including new apps for iPhone and iPad, we’re giving access to these technologies to more patients and caregivers."

New Generation of Health Care Technology

"Many of the remote health care warning systems on the market today are based on outdated technologies," adds Dohmen. "Today's consumers are used to doing pretty much everything on their smartphones or tablets, so the past year we've been developing a new generation of health care technology, including new apps for iPhone and iPad, that can be implemented on a large scale. To e nhance adoption our team also managed to integrate the new solutions digitally into existing EMR's in home- and hospital care."

Intuitive Tele monitoring System

An example of this new technology is the FocusCura tele monitoring solution, which consists of a range of connected vital sign measurement devices for chronic patients with COPD, heart failure and hypertension. The intuitive algorithm can detect severe health issues in an early stage and transmit the information through a mobile app. Health care providers are immediately notified via their iPhone or iPad.

An App for VideoCare

Another FocusCura innovation is an app for ambulant nurses, doctors and their patients. Through a remotely managed address book patients can see availability of and connect with their care team through video. The App even supports advanced accessibility features, like a '1-click simple mode' for disabled people.

More Time for Hands-On Care

"Our solutions guarantee the quality of care and contribute directly to helping vulnerable people maintain their independence," says Dohmen. "This, in turn, prevents unnecessary admissions to nursing homes and hospitals. Our apps for iPhone and iPad also support health care professionals with features like sophisticated remote communication and integration with HealthKit, as less travel time and instant access to mobile data give them more time for hands-on care.

Commitment to Privacy

Like Apple, FocusCura is deeply committed to privacy, putting the control of sensitive health data in the hands of patients. Dohmen adds, “We chose iOS as the platform for our mobile solutions as it offers the most secure user experience, and by integrating with key technologies like HealthKit and iOS Accessibility features, we know that data will always be in the patient’s control and encrypted.

Easy to use

The health care innovations developed by FocusCura are available to everyone, regardless of age or medical situation. Home care organizations and hospitals in the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, and Denmark (with other European countries to follow) can offer the applications as services to their clients, improving efficiency and quality of care.

Apple Mobility Partner

FocusCura is an Apple mobility partner, the first Dutch company to sign on, which allows the company to leverage Apple’s expertise and global reach to get its innovative e-health solutions into the hands of more patients and care givers. FocusCura is also committed to building best in class iPhone and iPad apps that leverage the latest features of iOS and Apple’s hardware, including HealthKit and CareKit, which provide richer and more convenient ways to share data and open new lines of communication between patient and caregiver.

Support by Apple Resellers

If additional support is required, care organizations and their users can contact Apple Resellers who have a contract with FocusCura. "This may include technical support or help setting things up in their own language," Dohmen explains. "Apple Resellers have a lot of international experience offering user support in the non-profit sector.”

The first Apple Resellers to offer the FocusCura e-health solutions are ATEA in Sweden and Amac and Scholten Awater in the Netherlands. The growing list of Apple Resellers in different European countries will be published on the FocusCura website.
