FocusCura brings doctor from the waiting room to the living room

20 February 2017

Today FocusCura showed its new eHealth applications aiming at enabling remote care for every patient with a chronic disease. FocusCura integrates the globally available Cisco Spark in its eHealth solutions making it a piece of cake for a healthcare organization to start a video doctor service.

The Dutch healthcare innovation company FocusCura and IT-company Cisco presented the first result of integrating Cisco Spark in the innovative eHealth applications of FocusCura. The presentation took place during the international ICT-event Cisco Live in Berlin. The first hospitals and healthcare organizations will start using this new solution for healthcare communication through iPhone or iPad next month.

Telemonitoring and telemedicine

The FocusCura eHealth solutions cContact telemedicine and cVitals telemonitoring are being used by more hospitals and home care organizations in various countries. cVitals allows patients to measure their vital signs at home and allows them to send these to their healthcare professionals, cContact enables direct contact with health care professionals by video communication.

Vulnerable elderly people and patients with a chronic disease

Vulnerable elderly people and patients with a chronic disease like heart failure or COPD are in frequent contact with their doctors or specialized nurses. Today this is only possible by visiting the hospitals, which is a true burden, particularly for these patients.
''By integrating Cisco's collaboration and communication platform Spark in the solutions of FocusCura on iOS, we want to enable every healthcare organization to bring healthcare from the waiting room to the living room'' says international business development director Ronald Scheffer of FocusCura. ''Cisco technology is frequently used in the healthcare sector around the globe. By integrating this technology in our applications which are specifically designed for frail and elderly people, we're connecting the world outside the hospital with the existing healthcare-ICT in the hospital. Healthcare professionals delivering community care can establish contact with specialized doctors in the hospital simple and user friendly. Patients can be monitored at home 24/7 and can establish a mobile video connection in case of need.

Cisco: ''The Netherlands as a role model''

''FocusCura is the first worldwide partner to integrate Cisco Spark in this way in its solutions. This can be seen as an example of how healthcare can be improved by smart digital solutions'' says Hendrik Blokhuis director for Cisco's program on accelerating the digitalization of The Netherlands. ''This is fully consistent with the Digital Agenda from the Dutch government and Cisco's ambition to help accelerate the digitalization of the Netherland's.''

Leading hospitals are on board

The first, mostly leading healthcare organizations, will start using this new technology. Organizations like the University Medical Center UMC Utrecht, Deventer Hospital, Medical Center Group, Pediatric Oncology Center - Princess Maxima Center, Siza, general practitioner Bart Timmers and homecare ZZG Zorggroep, will start using the new possibilities at small scale in the coming month. The new technology will become widely available in all countries in which FocusCura is active in the course of this year.
